Samples of the Trails here in the Park

These first two pics is of more interest to Ryan and Becky.  The first pic shows from the boardwalk the spot we camped in when you were down here. The second one is more of a close up of the rig that is in it now. Owen would like to ride in that one!

Bingo at the Flora-Bama

Ron and Linda wanted to check on bingo because their friends go there all the time. The friends go every week day but Wednesday since they don’t do bingo on that day. We won’t go again. Takes forever to do a game because the old guy does about everything but call out numbers. Then, he isn’t very good at that either. They give away prizes to the winner, some are good though. We left at a break. The old geezer signs your Bingo slip and you get a small bushwacker free with a $1 tip to the bartender. That was a good drink. The following are some photos.

OWA 3

Here are some pics of the inside of the park streets.

OWA 2

These are some of the restaurants that are there now.

OWA Amusement Park 1

went to the Wahlburger restaurant and realized it was not a stand alone but park of this park. It happened to be opening weekend. The park rides are separate entrance after you enter. It is all laid out with streets but only a few restaurants and shops are opened now.

Bike Ride

Took a ride on the Gulf Oak Ridge trail where you are high up above the campground. We also walked it which was a mistake because there was no exit trail and we walked 5.2 miles.

Our Site for March

Our site 102 is on Bobcat Road.  Just have to turn left as you past by the office.

The next two photos show Carl washing the pollen off the motor home and showing me watching. At one time. I did hold the hose so he could untangle it. LOL

It’s Been Awhile

Here are a couple of pics from the site we left on April 1. Wanted to show across the street and down the road. Across the road, are the primitives.

P.S. I will be posting a lot of short posts; because for some reason, it is not letting me attach many photos.  They will be there but I can’t see them.

Mardi Gras

The weather turned out great for the parade—sunny and in 70’s. In the morning Gulf Shores had their parade. We found out that in the afternoon they were also going to be in the Orange Beach parade. We left on our bikes and road the trails to OB. It was the best decision. If we drove, it would have been almost impossible to find a place to park. After the parade, cars were trapped because of all the places people parked where they were not supposed to.

We arrived about 45 minutes before the start at 2p, but had to wait about another 45+ before the parade reached us. We had a great spot because we waited by an opening that went into a parking lot and while cars were going in a policeman had his vehicle parked to the side and he was checking the cars. He later moved it to block the drive and allowed us to stand where his cop car was. We ended up talking to him the time we waited. He was very nice and interesting.

The following are a few pics I tried to get. The sun was in my way as they came towards me. Also, it was hard to take pictures while you are getting hit by beads, Moon Pies, candy, toys, etc.

This is some

Gulf State Park Campsite

Here are a couple of pics of our campsite 413 for the month of February.

It is a nice big lot with no one on the couch side. Across from us are the primitive sites. They are back in the woods so we pretty much don’t see anyone. We are on the main road (Racoon Road) a few sites down from Opossum Road on the north side. That information is for Eric in case you want to see our site on a website map app. Ron and Linda are on 376 on Opossum Road which is behind us parallel with the trail which is right behind them.

Cape San Blas

Finally sending a post from our time at St. Joe Penisula State Park. Phone and internet was spotting or not at all. I didn’t feel good the time we were there, but feeling fine now. I think I had bronchitis. Never seemed to stop coughing.

This park has two different campground loops. One was in the pines and the other in the palms. We camped in the latter.

We were just over a sand dune to the beach. There was a short boardwalk there. We walked the beach quite a long way down the beach to the boardwalk to the other campground. From there we walked the boardwalk that connects the two back. The sand was so nice and so easy to walk on.

The last night before we left we walked the boardwalk to the other campground and beach back just before sunset. It was a beautiful night. One guy was out with his kayak. When the sun went down, no one clapped. Guess they don’t know that tradition in Florida!

Now in Gulf Shores at the Park. There were so many coming in at once on the first and we all had to wait until 4pm to check in. It took forever. Some ladies rushed up ahead of us from their rigs back further. (We were all in line back down the entrance road.) They got their check in and couldn’t get into the park until we got ours because Ron and Carl had them blocked. DeJongs and us both have a nice spot. We are a little ways away but not that bad. Yesterday was sunny with a north wind but not too bad. We each set up our camps. At night we went to Mo’s Barbecue. Today turned cloudy expecting rain tomorrow morning. We rode our bikes today through the entire campground. Did not see anyone we know.

Extra Stuff

We were riding our bikes around the perimeter of the campground and they were doing a controlled fire by the trail parking lots.

They have a big celebration here in Tampa called Gasparilla. This past Saturday it was the kids festival. There were floats along the harbor on the boulevard and the water. It is all about pirates. That night on tv they had 25 minutes of one of the best fireworks I’ve seen, so I snapped a pic off the tv. This Saturday it is the adults turn called the Invasion of the Pirates. It’s a big deal here and we stay as far away as we can.

Continued Last Days

This is at the trail head.
This is the bike path we took out to nowhere!

Last Couple Days at Hillsborough State Park

These photos are of a class 2 rapids. There are only two in Florida. This trail followed the Hillsborough River.

Standing inside a dead tree.

This is a suspension bridge that took us across the river.
